I was doing some prop tests a while ago, (with 4 strokes) used a 62 saito and a 72 saito on the same prop. the 62 had way more revs than the 72. Today I set the 72 valves at .002 and it turned better than the .62 which it should. So if you do not have a .002 gauge, a page out of a scribbler is around .0025 to .003 so use it and McKiverise them. It is better than running to much gap. Saito blue gauge is pressed out of .005 metal, and they call for .002 to .005. So a motor that's sluggish or low on revs check the valve lash.
