I decided to change the wing to a bolt on a while back and this week it happened! To start with I used the cross dowel at the front as my base. I centered the wing and squared it off, then I used black tape and marked the true alignment to the windshield and rear of wing to body, next I cut it with a blade. Then I cut my wing, at the front only on each side of the center rib ,just to shape my holder (heavy paper) next move was the depth of the dowel from the bottom to the base of the wing mount or top of the windshield. once this was done I moved to the rear and glued two wing mounts to the sides of the fuse, (2" x3/4"x 1/4"). Next was mounting the wing perfectly and tracing the fuse lines to the outside in pencil. Remove the wing, mark the wing hold down holes so the mount holes are centered from side to side, leave room for fore and aft as you must decide on the strongest place of the wing. I then drilled a hole in the wing at both locations equal to the mount marks (both holes were well under sized), then I thinned some epoxy, taped off the bottom and poured it in the space so as not to crush the mount area, also taped the top and a short time later I sat the wing trailing edge down, (clamped the tape). Next I shaped my wooden front mount. It was made in three pieces, two sides the same and the center as a fill ,the same width as the ribs. It was made as a push fit so I could fit it and it stayed in place till it was marked for position(on these marks I placed pins as guides) and glued the mount in place. I used my electric pencil soldering iron later to carefully burn through the epoxy in the wing, keeping it centered. Next was to enlarge the mount holes and thread them , also drill the wing bolt holes. and today is fly day 06/08/2014.Some day I'll balance this old bird but if you change your mounting balance it before flying please? This is simpler than it reads!
