I have been having some issues with a DLE-30 Engine. It ran quite well for several flights but would cut out at odd times. Initially I thought this was due to improper tuning or fuel draw problems. After two crashes due to engine failure I decided to build a test stand in order to troubleshoot.
Imediately I noticed that where the electronic ignition cable conects to the spark plug a short was occuring. I corrected this by removing the metal housing and re-insulating. This helped but the engine would still surge and cut.
I then noticed that the Smart-Fly ignition cutoff fiber optic transmitter was turning off intermitently coinciding with the surging.
I wonder if this could be a stray voltage problem or some kind of RF interference or impedence issue?
Any advice on this issue would be welcome. Thanks

You can try taking the fiber optic out of the and cutting the ends and then put them back in and make sure they go in all the way and make sure that you tighten the finger nuts if the fiber optic cable is not right then you will have problems as the reserve can't get the signal from the tx and well shut the engine off another thing is check to make sure the boot in the spark plug cap is not cracked you will have to put the medal cap back on because it ground the ignition and stop from having RF problems.in the past I have had trouble and these were some of my problems give me a call I have lot of part can help you out.Doug

Thanks Doug. I tried grounding the engine to the ignition cable. As soon as I did this it ran perfecly. Problem solved.
