I have just started my Flybarless conversion on one of my T-Rex 600Es. I am using the Skookum SK360 Digital Flybar and the Mikado V-Bar T-Rex 600 Rotor Head conversion kit. The original T-Rex head with the Flybar Larger image here: nonprofit.memlane.com/rcers/images/Forum/IMG_4886.jpgThe pile of parts for the new head, no Flybar Larger image here: nonprofit.memlane.com/rcers/images/Forum/IMG_4884.jpgI will add an image of the completed head when it is finished. Cost of the Rotor head conversion is $110.00. Cost of the Digital Flybar is $300.00 Supposed to reduce drag for slightly longer flights, supposed to handle the wind better, tunable from docile to all out Crazy, and is just flat out COOL

Yes, it will be done for the weekend. Thought I would have it out tonight but the setup is taking a little longer than I thought it would.
So far I am happy with it. Some of the setup and configuration is a bit confusing but with the help of google and other nut cases like myself, it is all starting to make sense...

Oh I am pretty sure it is a Mandatory requirement!
With any luck I will take some pictures tonight with the blades mounted. I have to do the final cyclic and collective throw setups next...

OK, it is done and all setup. I am a bit nervous about the test flight but I guess it has to happen, one way or the other... Here is the completed head conversion. Larger image here: nonprofit.memlane.com/rcers/images/Forum/IMG_4890.jpgOne funny thing I found was when I went to measure the blade pitch, you normally use the Fly Bar as a reference, well, mine was laying on the bench in a heap! I was mighty confused but just for a second and then I decided to just use the bottom edge of one of my wall mounted cupboards as my reference. We will see if this was a good move... I suppose I should have checked to see if the cupboard was mounted level, nah, all done now anyway Al.

I just got back from my first test flight It sure is a different beast now! I had to crank my Expo to 30% as the response to my stick inputs was REAL sensitive. I did not take my laptop out so this was the only tuning I could do, I disabled the knobs for field adjustments. It was getting too dark to try any forward flight but I don't expect any big surprises there. It even sounds different now. There was no tendency to nose over or flip on its back prior to liftoff and playing with the cyclic while on the ground caused the same tilting acton's as it used to do with the fly bar, skid dancing. I am quite happy with the result. I can see that it is going to be very tunable, much more so that playing with a fly bar. I am going to start converting my Daily Flyer tonight and I guess I better locate some spare parts for when I start working on my special maneuvers again. Gee, now all I need is some grease to smear all over the place and it would be a heavenly evening... right Paul... Al.

Well if you where going to spread that grease over Pam Anderson or Carmen Electra it would be a heavenly evening.
So how much was this conversion, and how was the hovering? was it more stable? less work???

Total cost of the conversion was $400.00 Hovering did seem more locked in but there was no wind and it does need some tuning, it is way to snappy for me, and just feels different, in a good way. Mabe a thick layer of GREASE all over it would help Also noticed that the head gives me an additional 20mm of rotor disk! Hey Paul, have you learning anything new in Lethbridge yet? Al.

Was out this evening, talk about 2 hours of fine Helli flying weather! Andy and I had a blast! I tamed down some of my settings for the Fly Bar-less head an it was a quite bit easier to handle. Then I went and scuffed a set of tail blades off of mine trying a low level auto... Hey Crash, I just noticed that your Avatar is Fly-Bar-Less...
